Laura Bacon’s contemporary sculptures are initially inspired by nest-like forms and she has developed her own unique language with materials – a language that communicates the properties of the materials she uses and her strong desire to turn chaotic amounts of raw materials into ‘spaces’ of some kind. Some of her works celebrate these spaces openly, some are known only to her as she weaves much of the form from the inside out – and eventually seales the entry. The forms are evolved within trees, riverbanks and buildings, allowing the chosen structure (be it organic or man made) to become host. Her works seem uncanny and transmit a misterious beauty.
